media release: Kalos features Ryan McKasson (fiddle, viola, vocals), Eric McDonald (guitar, mandolin, lead vocals), and Jeremiah McLane (accordion, piano, vocals). As part of their development, all three members of Kalos learned from masters of traditional music (McKasson with Alasdair Fraser, McDonald with John McGann, and McLane with Jimmy Keane. The three are, themselves, masters of tradition who make alluringly complex music full of spontaneous artistry. Pulling from parallel strains of influence in the Traditional music canon, Kalos’ underlying drive and pulse, rhythmic electricity and swirling intensity transform traditional repertoire into a vital, elemental, genre-transcending sound appealing to music lovers of all stripes.
The Shauncey Ali Quartet weaves the fabric of Celtic and Americana traditions into a compelling tapestry of original compositions. Shauncey fuses the vernacular of a traditional fiddler, the technical versatility of a classical violist and the chops of an experienced improviser, while Hans Holzen (guitar), Nicholas Vanhaute (mandolin) and David Havas (upright bass) deliver a chamber-style interplay firmly rooted in tradition yet unbound by convention.
