Whether you’re a beginner or if riding on two wheels feels as natural as walking, Madison Bike Week has an activity for you. There are morning and afternoon commuter stations with safety checks, giveaways and snacks, including suburban stops on the Badger State Trail at Sub-Zero Parkway in Fitchburg and on Old Middleton Road near Allen Boulevard in Middleton (both on June 8), and on the east side Cap City Path behind Revolution Cycles (on June 9). Other highlights include a tailgate party and open house at the Free Bikes 4 Kidz workshop (3-6 p.m., June 8, 354 Coyier Lane); the return of the Bike Week party (4-7 p.m., June 9, Brittingham Park); and a bike touring talk by guide Brian Binversie (10 a.m., June 10, Freewheel Community Bike Shop). Starting Saturday, June 3 with the Trek Pride Ride, a cargo bike demonstration, an infrastructure tour with Westside alders, and several opportunities for free food, this year's Bike Week is the largest ever. The activities span the city and continue throughout the week until wrapping up on Sunday, June 10 with a talk on bikepacking – how to camp by bike. Everyone will be able to find something to enjoy.
Madison Bike Week encourages people to explore the city by two wheels, meet and network with other bicyclists, and learn more about the groups and opportunities that make Madison a great bike city. “Every year it is amazing to see how the community comes together to celebrate biking in Madison. Businesses, community groups, government agencies, people like you and me put on dozens of events that show how much support there is for biking as a safe, healthy, and fun way to move through our city,” says Harald Kliems, Madison Bikes board president.
For Bike Week events outside the Madison area, check out the Wisconsin Bike Fed’s calendar.
