Taylor Scott
The just-released album by the Taylor Scott Band, The Hang, was produced by Steve Berlin of Los Lobos. (For many music listeners that fact alone may be enough to know this is a band to hear.) As with Los Lobos, it is a fool's errand to try to place Taylor Scott's music in one genre box; his songwriting cooks up blues, rock, country and soul into a very tasty stew, with heartfelt vocals and some guitar shredding to boot. It's a no-brainer to catch this show as part of the Edgewater's free Brewgrass Fridays concert series on the plaza.
press release: After a two-year hiatus, Brewgrass Fridays are back on the lakefront plaza at The Edgewater in Madison. This popular summer series, in partnership with Door County Brewing Company, features some of the nation’s best bluegrass bands along with a Friday night fish fry.
Colorado-based guitarist Taylor Scott
Scott grew up beneath the wide skies of the rural American West, where a childhood appreciation for country music soon gave way to an obsession with guitar-driven rock & roll. Shortly after graduation, he was recruited by Otis Taylor to join the blues legend's band.
Scott funneled those experiences into his own music, crafting original songs that nodded to his influences while simultaneously reaching beyond them. Schooled in the classic songwriting of Guy Clark, Townes Van Zandt, and Jerry Jeff Walker, he combined a lyric-driven approach with the fiery fretwork of an instrumentalist who'd experienced his coming-of-age while touring the world.
