On April 21, 2018 the Wisconsin Vinyl Collective - Volume Two charity album will be released as an official Record Store Day album, benefiting the Keep Wisconsin Warm/Cool Fund, a statewide nonprofit charity that assists low-income households who cannot afford to pay their energy bills. This 1000-quantity limited run of vinyl albums is a collection of previously unreleased recordings from artists with strong Wisconsin connections, including: Violent Femmes, PHOX, Horseshoes and Hand Grenades, Tundra Blood, Peridot, Boom Forest, J Council, Zach Pietrini Band, Brett Newski, and Sarah Vos (of Dead Horses). Albums will be available at most indie record stores in Wisconsin, as well as select stores across the country
Three of Madison’s most decorated and prolific singer/songwriters have joined to form the backbone of a new musical project called Tundra Blood. With a common bond of calm and direct survival instincts in their veins, vocalists Erik Kjelland (The Mascot Theory), Corey Hart (Lost Lakes), and Gabe Burdulis (Future Stuff/Gabe Burdulis Band) are embarking on a musical quest to melt the arctic regions of your heart. With a sound carved by cold winter winds and a foundation planted in the soil of a frozen Wisconsin landscape, Tundra Blood has arrived.
J-Council features music written by Jon Wheelock and Sam Farrell and produced by Grammy nominated Cory Chisel!
Voted Best Live Act in Milwaukee (Milwaukee Magazine, 2017), it’s been four years since Zach Pietrini showed up on the Milwaukee music scene. Despite being a Chicago transplant, The Zach Pietrini Band has become a recognized name around town playing featured spots at Summerfest and Bastille Days. At the forefront of the Americana resurgence in the north country, Pietrini quickly distinguished himself with his fearless vulnerability, prolific writing, and dynamic live show. “Pietrini’s skill is crafting the kind of Americana that gets right into you with a beguiling friendliness” (88Nine Radio Milwaukee).
Pietrini’s 5th release, Holding Onto Ghosts, has continued to solidify his reputation as an Americana force. Picked for Best Album So Far 2017 by both UTR Media and Milwaukee Record, the new album offers a loud yet vulnerable look into what haunts Pietrini. Lyrically, the focus is on lost love, desperate hopes, and the tension of caring for a family while trying to ‘make it’ as an artist. Musically, “Pietrini’s smooth and delicate voice [affixes] to infectious hooks and a touch of classic country” (Milwaukee Record).
Pietrini says about the new record: “I wanted to offer an honest snapshot into my life, and invite people into a safe place to look at theirs”.
Zach and the Band push onwards. Voted Best Band in Milwaukee 2017 by Milwaukee Magazine, and serving as direct support for Huey Lewis and the News, Ray Wylie Hubbard, The Shook Twins and Miles Nielson & the Rusted Hearts, the band has proven it is here to stay. They will be hitting the road this January, and are excited to share their stories, sounds, and music.
Kyle Megna and Ross Caterton are two strong song writers that play in the same band Kyle Megna and The Monsoons! Their “dark-indie-blues-folk-rock feel” is a magnetic force that’s ever-charged with surges of creativity and artistic experimentation. Fused with a healthy dose of spontaneity and humor, Kyle and Ross channel "can’t-get-enough energy" that’s good for the soul.
Peridot marries folk songs with pop melodies, drawing inspiration from elusive emotions that we all feel, but often struggle to articulate. They’re subtle and powerful and they aren’t easily described by familiar words like “love” and “heartbreak.” Most of the time, they are more complicated than that. Peridot is an exploration of universal emotional hues, and we hope every song is a fingerprint.
WISCONSIN VINYL COLLECTIVE (WVC)
WVC founders Erik Kjelland (Stone After Stone Records) and Butch Vig (producer for Garbage, Nirvana, Foo Fighters) released the WVC Volume One album on April 22, 2017 as an official Record Store Day (RSD) release. Over 40 independent record stores in Wisconsin carried the album along with 130 other stores across the US and Canada. WVC alumni artists include the BoDeans, Cory Chisel & Adriel Denae, Emperors of Wyoming, and Locksley. WVC raised $3,000 for our charity and we are hoping to double this amount in 2018. Three album release shows are being planned for 2018 (4/20 in Appleton, 4/21 in Milwaukee, and 4/22 in Madison) featuring artists on the album.
