media release: WDRT is pleased to announce the FIRST-EVER WDRT Block Party Saturday July 27, 2024 from 3-9pm, in the backyard at 311 S Main St in beautiful downtown Viroqua.
This free, family-friendly event is a chance for the public to experience what community radio is all about, with an eclectic line-up of DJs and bands, and all of it LIVE broadcast on 91.9-FM.
Festival-goers will be able to tour the studio, record an on-air promo, and learn about the Studio C expansion project, which aims to create a third broadcast and recording studio including space for live performances and an in-studio audience!
With the help of generous area sponsors, free food is offered for attendees, including brats from Driftless Provisions, hot dogs from Organic Valley, kraut from Fizzeology Foods, maple cotton candy and a full picnic menu while supplies last. There will also be beer for sale from Footjoy Farm and Brewing.
In addition, there will be games and activities for all ages, such as face-painting, bag toss, bubbles, sidewalk chalk and a community art project. Free commemorative t-shirts will also be available.
The music line-up exclusively features those who also proudly volunteer at WDRT:
Reggae Pon Yard with DJ Smiley Sam
West Fork Gals (all-female country, folk, and Americana with sweet harmonies and a full bluegrass sound, featuring Jane Keeley from Down Yonder)
DJ DRT (folk-rock featuring Jay Hoffman of Playing Favorites, Twisted Jimmy of Twisted Jams, and Deacon Carl Sandbeck of Sunday Gospel)
Global Beat with DJ Kirsten and Chris Dunn
Daddy Long Legs (cover band playing the hits and the unexpected, featuring DJ Schmeejay from The Bruce Show)
Booty Tunes for the Dairy Air with MC SL!M (dance)
The WDRT Block party is made possible thanks to the incredible financial support of our members, as well as the following sponsors: Organic Valley, Driftless Provisions, Viroqua Food Co+Op, Fizzeology Foods, Bad Axe Music, Citizens First Bank, Vosseteig Funeral Home and Crematory, Sit n Git, Quality of Life Chiropractic and Shade Haven.
