The 26th annual Great American Beer Festival concluded over the weekend, and three Madison-area brewers received medals for their entries.
Locally, Middleton's Capital Brewery won a silver medal for its Munich Dark in the Dark European Lager or Münchner Dunkel category.
In the Baltic-style Porters category, the Grumpy Troll Restaurant and Brewery of Mount Horeb received a bronze medal for its Amnesia Porter.
And New Glarus Brewing was awarded a bronze for its Raspberry Tart in the Fruit Beer Category. Also, Leinenkugel's Berry Weisse captured the gold medal in that same class.
Other Wisconsin beer makers that were recognized included Lakefront Brewery of Milwaukee, which received a silver medal in the Gluten-Free Beer category for its New Grist. Sprecher Brewing in Glendale, meanwhile, won the bronze in the category for their Shakparo Ale. This was the first year the gluten-free category was recognized by GABF.
And Miller Brewing -- soon to be MillerCoors -- received multiple awards, including its sweep of gold, silver and bronze medals in the American Style Specialty Lager category. Icehouse, Mickey's Ice and Mickey's Malt Liquor won, respectively. It also won gold and silver in the American-Style Lager for Hamm's and Miller Genuine Draft, respectively, a silver for Henry Weinhard's Classic Dark in the American-Style Dark Lager category, and a bronze for Frederick Miller Classic Chocolate Lager in the Herb and Spice Beer category.
