UP: Madison air quality. Madison Gas and Electric announces that beginning in March, it will switch from coal to the much cleaner natural gas as its primary fuel source. The plant is on track to eliminate coal completely within two years.
DOWN: Wisconsin farmers. Their net income last year dropped a staggering 56%, to $1.1 billion, the lowest total since 2002, according to a report from UW-Madison. About 80% of the decrease was due to the drop in the price of milk. Lower corn prices also contributed.
