UP: William Farnsworth. The science teacher at Waunakee Intermediate School is awarded the 2006 Presidential Award for Excellence. He is the only Wisconsin teacher to be honored, out of 93 selected nationwide. Farnsworth says he tries to make science fun for his students by using hands-on activities. As his prize, Farnsworth gets $10,000 and a trip to Washington, D.C.
DOWN: Honeybees. A mysterious ailment that kills off honeybee colonies has apparently reached Wisconsin. Though no state cases of "colony collapse disorder" have been officially diagnosed, several Wisconsin beekeepers say their hives are dying out. Scientists don't know the cause of the illness, which has already wiped out thousands of bee colonies in 30 states.
