Final Fantasy XIII is another title from the game series GameSpot magazine reviewers correctly identified as Star Wars-esque, Japanese, anime, role-playing fantasy. This epic game claims to have an action-type system called Active Time Battle. But to me, it looks a lot like traditional Dungeons and Dragons-ish role-playing.
You engage in five- and 10-minute battles where you stand in one spot, pick some violent actions for the game to carry out, then watch the actions take place while "hit point" numbers pile up. Then the villain of the moment takes his violent turn against you, as you stand and watch yourself get attacked.
Since it is a Final Fantasy game, the stylized look will seem familiar. Although this time, you may turn your creatures into a motorbike and other vehicles that you drive over bad guys. Does that sound Transformers-y to you?
There are lasers, elixirs, supernatural fights, "chain" (combo) attacks and loads of role-playing fantasy adventure.
