Friday, Apr. 20 marks the "regional premiere" in Madison of Urinetown, the Tony Award-winning anti-musical satirizing both corporate and government bureaucracy that's been hitting stages throughout the country over the last few years. The UW University Theatre is producing the comedy as it's final show of the year, hitting the stage at Mitchell Theatre over the next three weekends.
As described by the university company:
The impossible Broadway hit premieres in Madison! Urinetown is set in a dystrophic, drought-plagued future where city officials have come up with a unique way to conserve water: only public restrooms may be used -- and people must pay for the privilege or be carted off to the ominous Urinetown! This Tony Award-winning musical comedy pokes fun at every imaginable musical and theatrical convention with biting humor and memorable melodies that will keep you humming all the way home.
