Released this week: Candy, Curse of the Golden Flower, Happy Feet, The Pursuit of Happyness, School for Scoundrels, Turistas, Van Wilder 2.
Curse of the Golden Flower: Zhang Yimou's follow-up to Hero and House of Flying Daggers is set during the Tang Dynasty, when China's royal family was descending into various Shakespearean tragedies. It's so richly ornate it feels like a hallucination, and the actors ' Chow Yun-Fat as the emperor, Gong Li as the wife he's slowly poisoning ' are definitely up to the movie's operatic challenges.
Turistas: This effective horror film places a group of teenagers in a Brazilian rainforest, where they run afoul of a rural sawbones. It's a visceral piece of work, believably acted throughout.
