Keeping Up With the Steins: An L.A. talent agent (Jeremy Piven) throws a bar mitzvah for his son that becomes an overwrought battle between him and his estranged father (Garry Marshall) and the ex-partner (Larry Miller) whose own over-the-top bar mitzvah party he hopes to top. It's not a bad film, but it's just not funny enough, devolving into a schmaltzy conclusion.
Mission: Impossible III: Tom Cruise battles an evil arms dealer (Philip Seymour Hoffman) in the best installment of this over-the-top action series. The story never loses its rocket-sled forward motion, despite grounding the proceedings in the realistic details of our hero's personal life.
