What’s a person to do when he or she needs an old Betamax player? Tech garbage to most, a UW-Madison scientist found himself needing one of these relics to access and archive decades-old research data on fusion technology. In the Garbage issue of Isthmus on April 16, Allison Geyer reported on how outdated technology is often essential in accessing information recorded with it. The UW Tech-Partners group tries to fill in the gaps, by resurrecting outdated media to save its content in modern formats. She spoke with WORT-FM producer Dylan Brogan about the story for the station’s In Our Backyard evening news program.
