Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island now has cheese jokes, reports contributing writer Laura Stempel Mumford in her feature about Tap-It's rock 'n' roll adaptation, featuring the Rousers. Playwright Danielle Dresden, who plays the heroic Dr. Livesey as a woman because she found Stevenson's male character "insufferable," asked herself what modern characters equate with Stevenson's wicked yet lovable rogues, then settled on rock musicians and roadies. Rousers lead singer Frank Furillo concurs: "They go around on their tour bus and they trash their hotel rooms, they drink a lot and they throw their money away on things we won't mention because it's a children's show." The Rousers marked their 25th anniversary last year with a concert at the Majestic; 2010 marks a quarter century for TapIt/new works.
A Rousing adaptation
