Richard Eggleston's cover story runs under the headline "Kastenmeier the Unconquerable?" Up for reelection to a 17th term in the U.S. House of Representatives, the Sun Prairie Democrat, 66, is a popular incumbent. But the GOP challenger, former newscaster Scott Klug, 37, is not so sure: "I don't think he's invincible," he says, adding that low Dane County turnout and the coattail effect of an expected Tommy Thompson gubernatorial landslide could spark an upset in Wisconsin's 2nd Congressional District. Kastenmeier says he is not taking the outcome for granted: "I've always assumed that elections could go either way, especially when I've had a hard-working opponent." Klug does indeed upset Kastenmeier, by a margin of 53%-47%.
