Women on top

"I think it's very significant that my daughter doesn't even blink about the notion of a woman becoming president of the United States," Hannah Rosenthal, executive director of the Wisconsin Women's Council, tells George Vukelich in his Listening In column, "because my daughter, little girl though she is, was very aware of the fact that our country had a woman running for the office of vice president. That's not an experience that I grew up with....That's still not a ‘normal' experience for a lot of children who are growing up today. Until we get the education that breaks down the sexual stereotyping at the very beginning, in the kindergartens - and then maintain that education all the way through - we can't hope to really address the inequities that exist in the workplace." Now executive director of the Chicago Foundation for Women, Rosenthal was named in January as one of "21 Leaders for the 21st Century" by the international Women's eNews service.
