Glory days
As the Milwaukee Brewers battle for the National League Central title, revisit the city's previous two championship teams with World Series Wisconsin. The exhibit at the Wisconsin Historical Museum 30 N. Carroll St., opened last month and celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Milwaukee Braves' 1957 World Series victory and the 25th anniversary of the Milwaukee Brewers' 1982 American League pennant. It features dozens of game-used uniforms and equipment - including Hank Aaron's road jersey, Paul Molitor's batting helmet and Robin Yount's World Series bat, plus Milwaukee County Stadium's seats and home plate. Scores of historical photographs, original television footage and radio broadcasts also are showcased. Traveling music
The Madison Center for Creative and Cultural Arts' Culture Coach winds up its second summer tour this month with five weeks of family-friendly musical performances by artists as diverse as the Afro-Cuban quartet El Clan Destino (Sunday, Aug. 5), the jazzy Hanah Jon Taylor Artet (Saturday, Aug. 11), the Madison Ballet (Sunday, Aug. 12), the Madison Jazz All Stars (Saturday, Aug. 18) and the Atimevu Dance & Drum Ensemble (Saturday, Aug. 25). The Culture Coach is a movable stage that will have visited a dozen Madison and Monona city parks by summer's end. Events at each stop - including Brittingham, Monona Fireman's, Olin, Tenney and Wingra parks - begin at 3 p.m. with a community drum circle. African relief
It's not often parents are encouraged to take their kids out to a bar, but on Aug. 4, the Capital Brewery, 7734 Terrace Ave., in Middleton will be open to families from noon to 8 pm for the Africa Alive fund-raiser benefiting AIDS orphans and other vulnerable South African children. In addition to West African dance demonstrations and a fashion show featuring UW students, family favorite Ken Lonnquist & the Kenland Band will take the stage at 4 pm, followed by the "conscious reggae" of Tony Brown & The 608 Riddim Section at 6 pm.
