Settled in yet? After the great fall migration from carefree summer days to get-ready-for-winter thoughts, we should be poised to move on with our agenda for the shrinking days that lie ahead. For your household needs, consult the Abode supplement that accompanies this issue. For your edification and amusement, you can start thinking about the special events.
First up are the Isthmus Independent Business Awards, sponsored by Monona State Bank. Actually, the awards ceremony doesn't happen until Monday, Nov. 4, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Madison Concourse Hotel. But nominations close on Sept. 25. To nominate a candidate in one of the eight categories, go to IsthmusIndies.com. Winners will be chosen by a panel comprising representatives from Isthmus, our partner Dane Buy Local, Monona State Bank and past honorees. Proceeds from the Nov. 4 event will benefit Dane Buy Local.
Coming next month is the gustatory highlight of the fall, the Isthmus Food & Wine Festival, happening Friday, Oct. 18, from 5 to 9 p.m., and Saturday, Oct. 19, from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Alliant Energy Center. If you are serious about dining and/or drinking, this is the event for you. (If you're serious about drinking, also watch out for the Isthmus Guide to Drinking, coming in issue No. 39, Sept. 26.)
Food & Wine will feature all manner of food-related presentations, including sampling and demonstrations. More features are being added to the event even as we communicate this message. That's why we're selling two-day passes; there's more than fits in one session. Visit IsthmusFoodandWine.com to get updates on the happenings and to buy tickets. Tickets are also available at all Steve's Liquor locations and at Star Liquor. As the ad says, "Eat, drink and be Madison!" You've got to be 21 or over to enjoy this one.
