In 40 Shades of Blue, Rip Torn plays a legendary Memphis music producer who's used to getting exactly what he wants exactly when he wants it ' an asshole, in other words, but with enough Southern-fried charm to keep everybody happy most of the time. And Torn, who's still capable of roaring like a lion well into his 70s, does a great job of whipping up gusts of hot air. But it's Russian actress Dina Korzun, as the producer's brand-new trophy wife, who quietly ' very quietly ' walks off with this carefully observed drama. Model-thin, with a face that's all planes and angles, Korzun creates a moat around herself, an impenetrable barrier that the producer's son (Darren Burrows), visiting from L. A., may or may not choose to lose himself in. Think of it as a red-hot love triangle, only in myriad shades of blue.
