This photo shows the front windows of the Mercury Restaurant Lounge, on East Mifflin Street just of the Square, complete with a reflection of the Capitol Point condos. The Mercury, which specializes in Greek food as well as an array of soups and sandwiches, also serves as a venue for spinning and stage antics. DJ CIA typically plays soul, hip-hop and R&B at the lounge on Tuesdays and Fridays, while DJ Ohm takes over with soul, funk and hip-hop on Mondays.
The café also is a second home for the Mercury Players Theater (MySpace), a 12-year-old company based next door at the Bartell which focuses on "innovative works that challenge views on society, art and human nature." One of its latest projects is Short Shorts/Hot Pants, a series of one- and three-page productions written by local playwrights, all staged in the Mercury Lounge. One of these free "theater in a bar" performances will be staged tonight, Tuesday, June 26, at 8 p.m.
