Spring snow showers
Today's image is titled "Spring snow showers" and was photographed by Kristian Knutsen.
It couldn't be any more appropriate: a major snowstorm socks a broad swath of southern Wisconsin on the first full day of spring. It's the tenth major such storm of the season to hit Madison, at least as marked by the previous nine plowing-and-parking Snow Emergencies declared by the city of the last four months.
This photo shows a nearly deserted State Street, the swirling flakes rapidly covering the tire trails and footprints left in the slushy accumulation blanketing the ground. Some three to five inches have fallen around Dane County so far, pushing the total winter snowfall perilously close to the century mark. The snow is expected through the afternoon and evening, with more possible over the weekend and into next week; 100 inches here we come!
