Today's image is titled Easter Cow near Atwood Avenue and was photographed by Nadine Goff.
Given this record-smashing winter and the early date of Easter this year, the fresh blanket of snow covering Madison over the weekend wasn't a too surprising of an accompaniment for the springtime holiday. It was somewhat incongruous, though, as seen in this photo, which shows a familiar creature garlanded with flowers and plastic eggs.
As detailed by Goff, this is one of the entrants in the , which was painted by Mary Heinze and was originally situated on the Capitol Square before it was auctioned off for $5,500. Goff continues:
Holstein Parade now spends her days on Eastwood Drive. Thousands of people whiz by her in their cars every week, catching a brief glimpse of her ever-changing seasonal attire.
If you want to catch more than a fleeting glance, you'll need to park your car somewhere near the intersection of Atwood Avenue and Winnebago Street and walk over to the Krupp General Contractors office at 2020 Atwood Avenue. The office occupies the former Hoffman-Kennedy Dairy Horse Barn, located behind the Kennedy Point Condominiums.
Stepping back to last summer, Goff also takes a look at the cow in its summer finest. More views of Holstein Parade can be seen here and here, as well as decked out in its 2006 Easter costume.
