WORT Block Party 2008
Today's image is titled WORT Block Party, held on the 600 block of West Doty Street on Sunday, May 18, adjacent to the community radio station's studios in the downtown Bassett neighborhood. More views from the weekend gathering are available in a shot by another reveler.
"We had a fantastic Block Party last Sunday," declares WORT music director Sybil Augustine in her weekly charts update, noting that the station sold 25 kegs of beer and 2500 raffle tickets over the course of the festival. "This will help offset our budget woes, for the end of the fiscal year," she explains to music labels, looking for their support in donating premiums for the station's upcoming June pledge drive. "We've suffered greatly from recent CPB budget cuts, trying to keep up with costly advancements in technology, and increasing competition from webstreamers and video providers, etc. But community radio still remains the prime source for access by local and touring musicians, independent underground music, and the leading edge of tastemakers that help the music industry stay real."
