Passionately Pink
Today's image is titled "Passionately Pink" and was photographed by Kristian Knutsen.
October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a coalition of service, medical, and government organizations dedicated towards increasing screening for and early detection of breast cancer, the most common cancer-related cause of death for women worldwide. As part of this nationwide campaign, the Madison affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure participated in Passionately Pink for the Cure, a fundraising campaign held last Friday, October 19.
That evening, as well as the following nights on Saturday, October 20 and Sunday, October 21, the Capitol dome was lit pink, as seen in this photo. Additionally, numerous businesses around the city are participating in the month-long awareness campaign by lighting their exteriors pink, including the Isthmus building just off the Square. The fundraising continues with a benefit for the Wisconsin Breast Cancer Coalition on Wednesday, October 24 at the Wine Boutique in Middleton. More information about his campaign and ongoing work to cure the disease is available from Susan G. Komen for the Cure in Madison.
