In this classic autumn in Madison scene, one pair of ten-foot-tall human scarecrows dominates this photo, with a low angle and two pairs of stilts responsible for their looming presences. The backdrop is the Dane County Farmers' Market, on the southwest quadrant of the Capitol Square where West Washington Avenue stretches away from Carroll Street. Visible in the background are the Capitol itself, as well as the booth for Brunkow Cheese, a market mainstay.
