All morning I was asking law enforcement officers just how large the protest was. They had no idea. The latest news seems to indicate that the thousands of students and teachers have had a huge effect:
The Department of Administration says nine arrests have been made in the state Capitol today as protests of the budget repair bill continue to rage.
The agency estimates that about 25,000 protesters converged on the Capitol today: 20,000 outside, with 5,000 more inside.
Arrests. That's something new. They don't necessarily indicate violence, but it would be unfortunate if they do. The only thing more powerful thant a 25,000 person protest is one that manages to remain peaceful.
