Madison Believers is a very personal project of mine. Every other week, I'll visit a different religious establishment in town and type up my thoughts, essentially reviewing houses of worship around Madison.
By review, I don't mean assigning one to four crucifixes for the post-service lobby treats or assessing how good a particular church is for picking up single women. Although both are fine criteria.
No, my plan is to attend at least one service of every Madison church and discuss what I liked, what I didn't, who's the average churchgoer at each establishment, and most importantly, what makes each church unique. Every church has a story, every congregation a history, every pastor a personality.
Maybe I'll find that I belong at a church other than Luther Memorial, where I'm currently an associate member. Maybe I'll find which church is perfect for UW students. Maybe I'll find I should have converted to Judaism years ago.
No matter your thoughts on God, it can't hurt to know your city's religious scene. I'll start from my base camp, Christian denominations, but plan to visit other religious institutions, such as synagogues and mosques.
I welcome your feedback, your church suggestions and your own reviews. If you ever want to join me, let me know!
