As foliage throughout the area takes on its autumn colors and subsequently sheds, now is as good as if not a better time than any to take a drive through the UW Arboretum. If that's not possible, there's also this video clip. Now provided by Google, this YouTube video offers a driver's eye view of a trip along Arboretum Drive. Beginning at the west end of the park near the Nakoma neighborhood, the driver passes bicyclists and pedestrians during a trip east towards the city's downtown.
Located along a couple of nice-sized parcels of land to the south of Lake Wingra and just north of Fitchburg, the Arboretum boasts "the oldest and most varied collection of restored ecological communities in the world, including tallgrass prairies, savannas, several forest types and wetlands," not to mention "flowering trees, shrubs and a world-famous lilac collection."
The three-and-a-half minute clip follows below.
