Chart-topping Denver alternative/not-really-Christian rockers The Fray stopped in Madison last Friday, the latest stop on their U.S. fall tour. This concert in front of a full house of screaming young fans was yet one more step for the band, looking to consolidate a rapid rise to prominence over the last year as their song "How to Save a Life" took off as a promotional track on NBC's Scrubs and ABC's Grey's Anatomy. Perched near the bottom of the Orpheum's steep balcony, one concert-goer shot a video of The Fray performing "Dead Wrong," the tenth track on their 2005 release (and current big seller) How To Save a Life.
The three-minute live concert clip follows below.
This isn't the only recent footage of The Fray performing in Madison. There are also two very brief clips of an earlier stop in town by the band. Featuring segments of the track "She Is" and an unnamed song, they are available here and here, respectively.
What about last weekend's show, though? One fan describes their appearance at the Orpheum:
so the fray came to university of wisconsin-madison this weekend and they were awesome? once the fray came on, everyone was out of their seats singing. my favorite song of theirs is "look after you" although everyone went crazy for over my head (cable car) and how to save a life, [of course these songs are amazing.] what i appreciate them is that they put so much meaning within their lyrics that create songs many people relate to and appreciate. overall, they got the audience on their feet the entire time and made a very exciting show!
The band itself notes the show on its blog as one of a "few great shows at a few great venues." Part of a string running from Northrup Auditorium in Minneapolis to The Rave in Milwaukee, The Fray sums up these shows as "college towns and beer and loud fans." More information about the band is available from thefray.net and from the band's MySpace page.
