In the week since it was released, Chad Vader Episode 4 has been viewed nearly one million times as posted in various places online, with the entire series reaching well beyond the five million mark. These are pretty significant numbers, enough to vault creators Matt Sloan and Aaron Yonda's Blame Society Productions into the top twenty subscribed channels on YouTube and to get them into serious talks to start making online videos professionally.
Their introduction to Chad Vader Episode 5 follows below, along with other response videos made by their burgeoning fandom.
Like their update previewing the fourth episode, Sloan and Yonda read fan mail, some of it literate, some of it barely so, and most of it very bloodthirsty.
The first four episodes of the series have elicited quite a response, not only in the number of views, comments, or emails sent to its creators, but in the form of videos as well. A few of these clips follow:
- For starters, there is a silent film version of the fourth episode, complete with title cards, a grainy film patina and a lively bluegrass soundtrack.
- One fan wearing a Vader mask asks the filmmakers about how they created their lightsaber effects.
- Another fan "sings a song of sympathy" for Vader in this brief clip.
- In this very brief vide, a fan says "this is the best Star Wars parody ever."
- Another fan reviews the third episode.
- There's even a six-month old Star Wars fan flick that has added the term "Chad Vader" and the names of its creators to its description.
- Finally, the first episode is accompanied by an interview with the filmmakers, created for The Romeo Theatre.
This list barely covers all of the videos made in response to Darth Vader's less talented and barely feared sibling, newly enshrined in its own Wikipedia profile. The entire series has been republished with Portuguese subtitles, a door for a whole new range of fandom in online-crazy Brazil; these were translated and republished by Luiz Tadeu Correia of SÃo Paulo.
Then there's the random assortment of other video clips that have nothing to do at all with the series. It seems that "Chad Vader" is increasingly becoming a term -- similar to lonelygirl15 -- that YouTube users include in their video descriptions simply to attract more viewers.
