The record-breaking weather over this past winter played havoc on notes Wis-Kino in an official update. "We saw comedy, but mostly tragedy at this year's Love/Sex screening. The turn out was much healthier than I expected given the last minute change of dates, so hopefully this is a good indication of things to come."
There were five films shown at the February screening at Escape Java Joint & Gallery on Willy Street, all of which touched on the theme of "Love/Sex" in one way or another. A list and brief descriptions of the entries follows, along with several of the videos:
- Basement Story
An imagined moment in the relationship between a woman and her partner is the focus o this short, which was originally created for the LoveFest 2008 filmmaking contest hosted by the online community DVXuser.com. As described in its synopsis:
We are happy until we are not. It's a slow shift, a pattern that sneaks up on us. One day we just realize that nothing is as we had hoped for.

All's fair... so the saying goes, and is explored in this short that focuses on a potentially violent and one-sided confrontation in an erstwhile relationship.

"A young lad's generous heart, a stranger's unique talent and a Mother's unconditional love are revealed in this tale of kindness, understanding and a jar of pickles gone bad," notes the filmmaker in the description of this short.
This gathering in February was followed by the always-rollicking "Music Video"-themed screening on March 20. Up next for the group is the Wis-Kino 2008 Spring Kabaret, which kicks off with a 7 p.m. screening on Friday, April 18 at Sundance Cinemas, where the theme will be "Angst, Popsicles, and War."
