When Phnom Penh fell to the Khmer Rouge 40 years ago, more than two million Cambodians lost their lives. The brutal regime also stamped out a thriving pop music culture that flourished in the '50s and 60s. In this one-of-a-kind documentary, director John Pirozzi pairs rare archival footage with interviews with survivors from Cambodia's music scene. As one of the documentary's subjects puts it, "If you want to eliminate values from past societies, you have to eliminate the artists. Because artists are influential. Artists are close to the people."
The 2015 Wisconsin Film Festival runs April 9-16. The schedule, including showtimes for Don't Think I've Forgotten, will be available March 11.
