Whether you think Valentine's Day is nothing more than a silly Hallmark holiday or you believe it's the sweetest day of the year, there's no reason you should be spending this weekend at home by yourself. What's that you say? You have no money? No significant other? No problem! Here are five events around town this weekend to keep you busy, whether you've been shot by Cupid or not.
1. All the Single Ladies Valentine's Day Ball @ The Majestic
Saturday, 9 p.m.
Are you a single lady? Do you like Sex and the City? If you've answered yes to either of these questions then make sure you attend the Anti-Valentine's Day celebration at the Majestic Theater this Saturday. Ladies get in free all night and the drink specials on Cosmopolitans and Apple Martinis are sure to help you capture the essence of Carrie and Samantha. Men are of course encouraged to attend as well -- as long as you're single.
2. The Vagina Monologues @ Wisconsin Union Theater
Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
If you're looking for reassurance that being single isn't so bad, this is the play for you. Despite its name, The Vagina Monologues boasts mass appeal, transcending gender lines as a thought provoking production about the relationship between sexuality and violence in American culture. 3. 14th annual Valentines Day 5K @ UW Natatorium
Saturday at 11 a.m.
Whether you're looking for an outlet to vent your sexual frustrations or you just like to run, the 14th annual Valentine's Day 5K is sure to be a highlight of your weekend. After all, there's no better way to kick the winter blues than with some good old-fashioned exercise. Be sure to visit the race's website ahead of time for registration info.
4. Tim McGraw concert @ the Alliant Energy Center
Friday at 7:30 p.m.
You don't have to love country music to swoon over Tim McGraw. Score some major points by bringing a date to hear McGraw croon his most popular love songs alongside special guest Lady Antebellum. Tickets start at $25 and are sure to sell fast so giddy-up and get 'em before they're gone.
5. Valentine's Day weekend @ Magnus Restaurant
If you have somehow managed to score a date, show him or her how sophisticated you really are by bringing them to Magnus for exotic entrees like Venison Carpaccio and live music from local artists such as klezmer band Yid Vicious and guitarist Steven Meyer. However, beware of high prices and hard-to-get reservations. There's nothing more embarrassing than needing your sweetie to help you with the check on V-Day.
