Between 70 and 100 bikers in all manner of costumes descended on Madison's downtown Friday night, shutting down parts of John Nolen Drive, East Washington Avenue and University Avenue and other streets for portions of the night.
The event had no organizers or permits and was spread only through a hodgepodge Facebook group and word of mouth. See photos of the event by clicking the "Gallery" tab at bottom right of the photo above.
A "Critical Mass," as it's called, happens each month, but Halloween is the Madison group's crowning event, bringing a much larger and more varied crowd than usual. High school students to retirees participated this year. The message is't as much protest as fun and the only message is to remind people that bikers exist and to share the road with them.
