Now that the start of summer is a few weeks away, live-music lineups for the season's outdoor events are popping up left and right. Touring acts are the centerpiece at the UW Memorial Union Terrace, Marquette Waterfront Festival and Live on King Street.
Highlights of the Terrace After Dark series include rapper J.R. Donato (June 6), Aussie singer-songwriter Betty Who (June 12), gifted folk-rock vocalist Sharon Van Etten (July 17) and baroque-pop act San Fermin (July 31). Most Terrace concerts start at 9:30 p.m.
On June 7, the Marquette Waterfront Festival features Califone's experimental rock (3:15 p.m.), Lyrics Born's crowd-pleasing hip-hop (5:15 p.m.) and the Sadies' country-tinged rock (7:30 p.m.). The following day showcases performances by honky-tonk master Robbie Fulks (2:30 p.m.), the versatile New Orleans Suspects (4:15 p.m.), chamber-pop act Mother Falcon (6 p.m.) and Marchfourth Marching Band (7:30 p.m.).
Tune-Yards' loops of drums and ukulele kick off the Majestic Theatre's Live on King Street series on July 18. The festivities continue on July 25 at a show headlined by '90s alt-rock sensation Cracker, and reggae artist Ziggy Marley visits on Aug. 8. An Aug. 22 gig showcases the rock 'n' roll of Deer Tick, the Weeks and Jessica Hernandez & the Deltas. Acts for the final performance of 2014 will be announced in July.
