Do you have plans for April 2013? If you're a classical fan, it's time to start making them. The city's premiere ensembles, the Madison Symphony Orchestra and the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra, have announced their 2012-2013 seasons. Both schedules feature a wealth of guest artists, most of them returning visitors.
The Madison Symphony Orchestra's calendar includes performances by a couple of Madison regulars, pianist Garrick Ohlsson (Sept. 21-23) and violinist Henning Kraggerud (March 8-10). Also tickling the ivories for the MSO next season are Gabriel Montero (Jan. 18-20), who performed at President Obama's inauguration, and the Madison natives Christina and Michelle Naughton (Nov. 2-4), who played with the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra in 2010. MSO music director John DeMain conducts all the concerts.
Music director Andrew Sewell's Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra adds a couple of pops concerts to next season's schedule: "Disney in Concert: Magical Music from the Movies" (Oct. 6) and "Live & Let Die: A Symphonic Tribute to the Music of Paul McCartney" (March 2). The WCO's Masterworks schedule includes English violinist Tasmin Little (Feb. 22), in her debut, as well as saxophonist Claude Delangle (Jan. 11) and pianist Anne Marie McDermott (March 22), who had to pull out of a 2011 WCO concert.
