On Saturday, May 3, the second annual Revelry Music & Arts Festival will bring more than 20 acts to Langdon Street to celebrate the end of the UW's spring semester. Though the fest is affiliated with the university, non-students can buy tickets at 821 University Ave. the day of the event, which kicks off near the Memorial Union at noon and runs until about 10 p.m.
By partnering with Red Bull's Sound Select program, the Wisconsin Union Directorate recently added five artists to fest, which will be headlined by moombahton maverick Dillon Francis.
Here's the lowdown on the new recruits.
This Chicago quartet bridge the gap between guitar rock and EDM, creating a sound that's both modern and classic. Frontman Tom Gavin brings a poker face to the stage, but the band soon shatters the illusion of calmness, delivering sets that range from lively to downright wild.
As Netherfriends, Shawn Rosenblatt has experimented with both Outkast-style rap and Animal Collective-inspired indie rock. He fawned over Big Boi's Sir Lucious Left Foot during an interview with Isthmus, hinting that he might cover tracks from that album in the future.
"Think Kid Creole meets Echo & the Bunnymen meets the B-52s," this Minneapolis duo say in one description of their romantic, funk-leaning pop. Even if you don't hear these influences right away, you're likely to locate the music's dance-friendly features pretty quickly.
