Tapes 'n Tapes

Madison can stake its claim to having known Tapes n Tapes before they got big. The Minneapolis band rocked the King Club in March 2004 with the Dorothy Heralds and again this January with Lorenzo's Music. Soon after, they were discovered by Pitchfork and Seattle's influential indie radio station, KEXP. Their elusive sound changes before you can describe it. Garage and surf are transitory ingredients, but the overall sound is rugged, unpolished guitar rock (akin to '90s faves the Dambuilders) that holds up to the intensity of Josh Grier's vocals. Having recorded their first EP in the Wisconsin woods, Tapes n Tapes are practically one of our own.
