Since forming in 2003, this New York noise-pop band haven't been in a hurry to release albums. Their patience has paid off. Their 2008 debut, Alight of Night, was critically acclaimed. And now In Love with Oblivion finds an irresistible groove of pop beats, jangly lo-fi guitar and echoey vocals that transcend time and place.
"Sycamore Tree" starts off with jagged, colliding reverb before shifting seamlessly into hazy, dance-friendly garage rock. "Through the Floor" recalls the head-bobbing fuzz of 1980s power-pop. "Alien Rivers" is a seven-minute playground of noise that brims with doom and suspense.
Crystal Stilts may be lean on records, but they're heavy on great songs.
