Pop rockers "All We Are" on Zoology isn't groundbreaking or genre bending, but that's not what 8889 are going for. The group's mission is to play entertaining, honest music. In this case, that honesty involves waxing poetic about love and friendship, while emanating an earnestness rarely seen outside of the emo world. Yet the song is a testament to the band's ability to avoid grating whininess in favor of endearing sweetness. Lively drums and catchy guitar riffs craft a nice backdrop for the smooth, harmonious vocals of songwriters Ross Benbow and Jason Teteak. The song builds to a layered climax before fading to a lone line of keys. The result is pure Britpop without the accent -- accessible, catchy, and sincere. 8889 love playing music, and that joy is infectious. An MP3 of the track is available in the related downloads at right. More songs by the band can be listened to on their MySpace page. 8889 will host a CD release party at the High Noon Saloon on Saturday, May 10. Everyone in attendance will receive a free copy of Zoology. MadTracks highlights and provides MP3s of songs performed by local musicians. All tracks here are provided with permission of the artist.
