National Beekeepers Society has quickly built a following on the foundation laid by their self-titled 2006 album and galvanizing/ramshackle live shows. The trio has for the most part been lying low since March, working on tracks for a follow-up release.
The Beekeepers' trio format allows the group to create a spare framework over which to drape their melodic songs and plenty of room for carefully chosen sonic embellishments in the studio. "Look at Me" follows this recipe, with acoustic guitar feedback and buzzing fuzz bass (or is it organ?) making the bed for a tale of admiration/jealousy -- maybe even potential violence (or maybe not) against the "pretty people."
National Beekeepers Society's next Madison appearance will be June 29 at the King Club. Doors open at 9 p.m., with equally catchy Madison trio Sleeping in the Aviary also on the bill along with Sunshine for the Blind and Cribshitter.
