It's been just over two weeks since the New York Jets officially released Brett Favre. Since then we've had front-row seats to Cirque de Favre. And while Packer fans fume at every leak and debunked report that puts Favre in a Minnesota Vikings jersey next season, I have to wonder, as Russell Crowe's Maximus did in Gladiator, "Are you not entertained?"
The last two weeks have been wall-to-wall Favre on local sports talk radio in at least two NFL markets: Green Bay and Minnesota. That's led to speculation that the Cajun quarterback is addicted to the attention.
"This is clearly somebody who needs accolades, needs to be talked about to feel good," says Dr. Jerry Halvorson, UW Health psychiatrist. But Halvorson, a Packer fan who just happens to specialize in mood disorder and addiction, isn't quick to absolve the green-and-gold faithful.
"I don't know how much I necessarily blame this on Favre as much as the media and the people who are looking for the story," Halvorson tells Isthmus. "This is a guy who doesn't know what he wants. Well, most of the rest of us don't know what we want. It's just that he's a well-known guy and his decisions will directly affect the team that we love, especially if he goes to such a hated rival."
At this point, there's little Favre could do to please co-dependent Packer fans jonesin' for the next bit of news on
