Vinyl Cave: 7-inch corral with Ramma Lamma, The Onions, The Pistols at Dawn, Sky Road Fly, Those Poor Bastards

Since the last singles roundup, a few little critters have wandered into the office on their own, and I've tracked down a few more on my own. Here's a sampling.

Ramma Lamma: "Gimme Gimme Gimme Gimme"/"Rock & Roll Lady" and "Little Runaway"/"Do You Know What I'm Doin'"
Milwaukee's glam-gum trio returns with two more slabs of wax, making four 7-inch releases in about a year. For some bands this would seem excessive, but Ramma Lamma has the goods to keep up with this sort of frantic (by modern standards, at least) release schedule. "Gimme Gimme..." includes a pair of Christmas songs packaged in a hilariously disturbing sleeve. The "Little Runaway" disc features another pair of stompers, as usual with one sung by Wendy and one by Ryan. This disc also has a "secret" B-side, which I'll let you discover by buying the record. There are also three different covers for this single from Italy's Goodbye Boozy label. Both of these singles are very limited releases, so those who are interested had best jump quickly. (, 2011)

Another Wisconsin band has a new Certified PR release out: The Onions, a Manitowoc four-piece led by longtime garage punk scenester Brad X, late of Last Sons of Krypton, The Tantrums, and other bands. It's no surprise that the pair of songs on the single are straight up rock 'n roll, growled by the rough shout of Mr. X. As a bonus, some copies of the single come with a CD-R bearing another 20 tracks, serving as a sort of a representation of the group's live show. The disc is about half originals, half covers by groups such as 999, Flamin' Groovies, The Boys, and others. (Certified PR, 2011)

Pistols at Dawn and Isthmus Band-to-Band Combat runners-up Sky Road Fly's side features "Train Magnet," a hard-rockin' tune also on their debut album. A CD-R included with the package has all three songs plus more material from both bands. The single is the first release on a new local label, Hype-Pathetic Records, which has since also issued the Phil Kegley Band's debut CD. (Hype-Pathetic Records, 2011)

Those Poor Bastards: Is This Hell? EP
In 2010, I managed to miss a couple Those Poor Bastards singles released around Halloween. But this year I did move quick enough to snag their most recent release, an EP with four new tracks (barely -- it's still available but probably won't be for much longer). Kicking off with the keyboard-centric title track, all four songs are certainly up to the Bastards' high standard of creepiness. And the current attack on workers in Wisconsin gives "Forever Poor" some rabble-rousing resonance. Also worth noting: This is a really, really great sounding 7-inch. (Tribulation Recording Co., 2011)
