Reach Out Wisconsin
The Rigby 119 E. Main St., Madison, Wisconsin 53703
press release: Please join Reach Out Wisconsin for a discussion of the Public School Bathroom Bill this coming Monday, October 17, 6:30 - 8:00PM, at The Rigby Pub And Grill, 119 E Main St.
In the last session of the Wisconsin Assembly, Representative Jesse Kremer (R-Kewaskum) and Senator Stephen Nass (R-Whitewater) introduced the Public School Bathroom Bill, which specifies that gender-specific bathrooms and locker facilities in Wisconsin public schools may not be used by persons of the opposite biological gender. The bill sparked outrage among many in Wisconsin, especially in the transgender community. It did not make it to the floor.
Since then, the federal government has issued guidance stating that public schools are obligated to treat transgender students in a way that matches their gender identity. Nonetheless, Rep. Kremer has said that he will reintroduce the Public School Bathroom Bill in the coming session.
Our guest speakers are:
Rep. Jesse Kremer, state representative for Wisconsin's 59th Assembly District
Darla Lannert, local transgender rights activist and board member at the OutReach LGBT Community Center
Parking meters are not enforced after 6PM downtown, and street parking in the area is usually pretty easy between 6 & 6:30. All of Reach Out Wisconsin's forums are free and open to the public. If you are on Facebook, RSVP here. Please send questions to reachoutwisconsin@gmail.com.
Reach Out Wisconsin's mission statement is 'Fostering respect and understanding in Wisconsin politics.' We hope that our efforts prevent political differences from devolving into social incivility. This is accomplished by each side getting a better understanding of why the opposite side believes as it believes, which usually comes down to a genuine concern for what is best for people.
