Singer and guitarist Alex White has been a big part of the Wisconsin Americana and jam scenes for a couple of decades in bands such as Elf Lettuce and The Pine Travelers, and as coordinator of the annual Madison tribute show to The Band’s final concert, “The Last Waltz.” White’s newest project is Alex White & the Friends, and they celebrate the release of their debut EP, North of Center, at this show. The EP features four musically diverse new tunes, from funky to fiery to introspective; it’s dedicated to White’s late Pine Travelers bandmate and friend, Nick Clutter. With Lamphouse Blue.

media release: Alex White & The Friends are releasing a new EP entitled “North of Center.” The EP will feature four new original songs written by White and arranged by White and his band. On 2/24/2024, they’re throwing an EP release celebration show with special guest Lamphouse Blue for what’s shaping up to be a stellar evening of live music at the The Bur Oak in Madison. This show will feature a long set of music from each band, in addition to a finale segment of the show featuring Joe Burbach (The Grasshoppers, The People Brothers Band) on keyboards!
Alex White & The Friends perform a high-energy live show steeped in the sounds of Funk, Rock, and Americana blended with a healthy dose of improvisation. They strive to constantly progress and hone their craft as they continue to rise on the scene and write new material inspired by the highs and lows of the many avenues of our human experience.
Best known as a founding member of the Midwest Jam/Funk band Pine Travelers, songwriter/guitarist Alex White has played in dozens of bands in his 20 year career as a professional musician. Prior to Pine Travelers, White was a founding member of the bands 4th Coast and Elf Lettuce. During those years, he toured much of the U.S. extensively and had the privilege of being the weekly opening act for Clyde Stubblefield, the legendary “Funky drummer” for James Brown and countless other artists. With a wealth of experience under his belt, White has become a competent band leader, performing regularly as a solo artist and curating a rotating backing band to perform shows as Alex White & The Friends, as well as organizing an annual tribute to The Band’s “Last Waltz” concert.
Lamphouse Blue began as a studio music project led by Joshua Alley planting the seeds of heartfelt melodies into lush sonic textures. Joined by Philip Smithburg, the music took root in reverse genres, drawing on deeper influences to catalyze its growth. The music truly blossomed with a the addition of clever cinematic drum stylings and elevating energetic grooves provided by Logan Grahn. The lamp is symbolic of the light of awareness and inspiration, the house is the soul and blue embodies the vastness of consciousness.
