Pop duo Aly & AJ have grown in the many years between their album releases and it shows. The sisters came up as Disney Channel stars and began releasing music as a duo in 2006. “Potential Breakup Song” peaked at No. 17 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2007 following its release, but really blew up on TikTok 13 years later, making the sisters into unintended TikTok stars. The duo re-recorded the song with an updated sound and explicit lyrics in 2020. Released in May, a touch of the beat gets you up on your feet gets you out into the sun… is Aly & AJ’s first full-length album in 14 years, audible proof of their growth as musicians. In a recent feature with Consequence, Aly & AJ mentioned that the music of St. Vincent & Garbage inspired the direction of “Get Over Here” which plays out as an ode to the primal attraction felt during the early stages of a romance.

“We wanted to write a song that encompasses the desperation & yearning that new relationships bring in those first few months of meeting,” said Aly & AJ about the track. “Sometimes it’s as simple as ‘I like when you show up this late, get over here’.”

The deluxe edition of the duo’s latest album is out now ahead of their forthcoming “A Touch of The Beat” US & EU tour, which will travel to Los Angeles, New York City, London, Paris, Berlin, Chicago, San Francisco, and more.

‘a touch of the beat gets you up on your feet gets you out and then into the sun’, which dropped in May, was praised as the “feel-good album of the summer” by Vogue, “a veritable treasure trove of emotions” by NYLON, and “a triumphant return” by Line Of Best Fit. They supported the record with their debut late night TV performance (on Full Frontal with Samantha Bee) as well as opening the mainstage at Lollapalooza (named one of the “6 best things we saw at Lollapalooza 2021” by Entertainment Weekly), as well as with interviews with NPR’s Weekend Edition, Billboard, People Magazine, WNYC, Washington Post and more.
