Anderson East, Brent Cobb
True Endeavors & Majestic Live Present. $17 ($15 adv.; ages 18+).
press release: Anderson East had already begun drawing applause and attention for his striking vocals and memorable songcraft when the Alabama-born troubadour caught the ear of legendary producer Dave Cobb (Sturgill Simpson, Chris Stapleton, Jason Isbell) while performing at Nashville’s iconic Bluebird Café. The two soon set to work at the historic FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, AL, home to the famed Muscle Shoals Sound. Released last year via Cobb’s Low Country Sound/Elektra imprint, Delilah received immediate critical acclaim, with Paste hailing it as “one of those 10-song records that’s damned near perfect, traveling through the old, smoky bars of older days and down the twisted back roads of love.” “(His) voice is full of gravely soul,” noted Rolling Stone Country, “easily tackling both piano ballads and foot-stompers, going head-to-head with a gospel chorus thanks to a killer range and often heartbreaking lyrics.” “From easy rolling ballads such as the sultry ‘What a Woman Wants to Hear’ to full blown Stax-styled horn-enhanced burners like the first single ‘Satisfy Me,’ (Anderson) East digs into this material with sweat soaked conviction,” declared American Songwriter in a four-out-of-five starred rave. “If there is any complaint, it’s that it’s over too soon, but that just whets our appetite for more.”
“Black Crow” is from Brent’s anticipated major label debut, Shine On Rainy Day, which will be released October 7 on Low Country Sound/Elektra Records and is now available for pre-order. Each digital pre-order comes with an immediate download of “Black Crow” as well as the album’s lead track, “Solving Problems.”
"Black Crow" by Brent Cobb
Already receiving acclaim, NPR Music’s Ann Powers praises, “‘Solving Problems’ is emblematic of the calm insights Cobb offers on Shine On Rainy Day, an album genuinely worthy of comparisons to often-invoked names like Jesse Winchester and Kris Kristofferson,” while WXPN’s World Café recently featured Brent on the renowned program declaring, “…a gorgeous solo album that promises to place him in the top echelon of this century’s young troubadours” (listen to the full session here).
Produced by Grammy Award-winning producer Dave Cobb (Chris Stapleton, Jason Isbell, etc.), the album was recorded live over four days in Nashville.
