press release: First Saturday every month year round, meets at 1650 Sherman Avenue (Tenney Park Beach parking lot). Outings are free, fun, family friendly and educational. No registration required, no pets. Wear a mask and maintain social distance. Wear comfortable hiking shoes and clothing appropriate for the weather. Bring binoculars or a camera if you have one! Post pictures and comments on the Friends of Tenney-Lapham and Friends of Yahara River Parkway Facebook pages. Bird lovers and kids of all ages are invited to join Naturalist Paul Noeldner to look for and learn about Wisconsin's Favorite Winter Birds. Some binocs will be provided We will take a leisurely stroll around Tenney Park to look for colorful winter birds at feeders in neighboring yards, tiny sparrows hopping in trees and bushes looking for seeds, berries and bugs, ducks dabbling in the lagoon for bottom plants, and loons and merganzers diving in the lake for fish. Learn to use Merlin to help you identify birds by sound as well as by sight. How does each different kind of bird we see find food, water and shelter? What kinds of seeds are good to put in a bird feeder? Enjoy a campfire with hot chocolate and smores after the walk.
