Boating Safety
press release: Believe it or not, boating season is just around the corner. The Dane County Sheriff’s Office is announcing the 2017 schedule of boating safety classes, set to begin in April.
Registration is now being accepted for 2017 boating safety classes. A complete class schedule and online registration can be found at https://danesheriff.com/boatSafety.aspx.
Prior registration is required, and a $10.00 fee is due on the first day of class. The minimum age to attend is 10; however it is recommended that students be close to 12 years of age or older. Graduates receive a DNR boating safety certificate valid once the graduate is 12 years of age. Anyone born on or after January 1, 1989 is required to complete a boating safety course to legally operate a motor boat or personal watercraft on Wisconsin waters.
According to the Wisconsin DNR, operator inexperience, inattention, recklessness, and speeding are the four leading causes of watercraft crashes and the leading cause of death is drowning. Whether you’ve been boating for years, or are just a beginner, these classes offer valuable information.
