POSTPONED: Boz Scaggs
press release: In mid-June, Overture Center announced the difficult decision to reduce our workforce due to the financial impact of being closed since March. On June 25, we announced additional measures to ensure we can welcome you back to the theater when the time is right:
Overture Center will take an “intermission” by suspending performances and in-person programs.
- Overture Center has been closed since March 13, and all performances and other activities are suspended until further notice. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, many touring shows are not traveling around the country, which means Overture will not have a presenting season this fall. There will be no public performances through the end of November. We are exploring the possibility of holiday programming in December. We will follow city, state and national guidelines and will reopen when it is safe to do so.
- We will continue to work closely with and support our resident arts companies in their plans as much as possible. By working together, we hope to ensure Overture maintains its central role in the artistic community.
- While the building will be essentially closed, our mission will continue. A lesson learned during this time is that Overture’s mission and community impacts extend beyond a building. Please enjoy our digital programming and let us know what you like.
- Ticketholders for Overture Presents and Broadway at Overture will be contacted regarding individual performance status and options as shows confirm their changes. Please stay tuned for updates on COME FROM AWAY and the 2020/21 season. See here for show status updates.
We remain committed to providing you “something to look forward to” in a safe environment, even though the timeline has changed. Thank you for your continued support and your understanding.
f you have tickets for an upcoming performance, our ticket office will contact you (by email, if applicable) to outline your options: donate your tickets back to Overture, request a gift certificate or receive a refund. We appreciate your patience as we navigate this process.
Please note: refunds are only available for tickets purchased directly through Overture Center. We are not responsible for the refund practices of secondary ticket brokers (e.g., StubHub, Vivid Seats, etc.). If the tickets were transferred or forwarded to you, the refund will be applied to the credit or debit card used for the original purchase.
If you have a ticket for one of Overture’s resident organizations for an upcoming affected event, you will be contacted directly by the organization regarding your options. Our resident organizations are Bach Dancing and Dynamite Society, Children’s Theater of Madison, Forward Theater Company, Kanopy Dance Company, Li Chiao-Ping Dance, Madison Ballet, Madison Opera, Madison Symphony Orchestra, James Watrous Gallery and Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra.
How You Can Help
You can make a difference in Overture’s future. Many of our patrons have asked how they can help Overture during this crisis. We are reflecting on how we will support our community when we reopen. How will we deal with everything that has happened? How will we process it, memorialize it and make sense of it? The arts are a vital element to our healing process—and access to the arts is more important than ever.
Overture’s mission to “support and elevate our community’s creative culture, economy and quality of life through the arts” comes alive in our 20 community programs, making it possible for schools, families and individuals of all ages to engage in the arts. Each year, we serve nearly 300,000 community members of all ages and backgrounds through these free and low-cost programs.
With the current economic uncertainty, the great influx of people experiencing layoffs and lost jobs, the demand for these opportunities will only increase. We want to be ready to meet that demand.
Our spring match campaign is underway with our Corporate Champion, Bell Laboratories, and Local Legend, Dianne Christensen (in honor Sandra Gajic), matching gifts (up to $200,000) made through June 30. Every dollar you donate will be matched, doubling your impact when we need it the most.
Please consider investing in Overture’s efforts to heal the community through art.
